Abbotsbury SwanneryYou get an almost tangible sense of history at the Abbotsbury Swannery. They've been looking after swans
here for 650 years and the swannery has been owned by the same family since the time of Henry VIII.
The monks farmed the swans for the table: though the motives are now more altruistic the husbandry
is little changed.

Feeding times are noon and late afternoon - and the swans know it. With 700 swans in the colony new-born cygnets often
get separated from their parents and the staff reunite them - even taking cygnets away from incompetent parents and
putting them with foster parents. Social workers will love it!
