Dunster Castle

Dunster Castle is a bit of a hotch-potch. Originally a Norman mott and bailey, the castle was superseded by a Jacobean mansion, then that dreadful vandal Oliver Cromwell ordered the castle and castle walls on the mott destroyed, leaving the mott as an empty plateau garden. Fortunately Cromwell's men didn't touch the mansion. |next attraction|

Dunster Castle

In the 1860s the place was remodelled and lived in until the 1970s. So there's no grand kitchen with shiny copper pans - only a rather ropey 1970s electric kitchen. But the house is worth a visit, with well-appointed rooms to wander round, gardens to linger in and a pleasant riverside walk to the Old Mill. |map|  |more places to visit|
