Heartlands

Hartlands is on the site of an old tin mine. It has two attractions. The first is an adventure playground, shallow water feature and garden - tailor made for families with young children. The second is all about mining, with some of the original machinery still in situ. But ne'er the twain shall meet. |next attraction|

The museum centres around what used to be a shaft down to the South Crofty mine. As well as the large electric winding gear, there's a Lancashire boiler (not working) and some other chunky bits of kit to look at. Book your tour of the engine house when you arrive. There's a history of the site and a film which, although a bit arty, is worth watching. The cafe is in the old machine shop and you might find your table next to a fine old band saw or circular saw.
