St Michael's MountSt Michael's Mount was a religious centre for 1500 years or more. Atop the mount the original 12th century building
has had many alterations including a 14th century church rebuild and a splendid Victorian castle extension.
Inside, the castle has the feel of a country house with improvements made well into the 20th century.
Although now owned by the
National Trust,
the family who donated it still live in part of the building.

For about 4 hours around low tide you can walk across the causeway, otherwise it's a short boat trip.
Then a walk up the mount to what from some angles looks like a Disneyland fantasy castle.
The garden clings precipitously to the granite cliff and is quite a feat of 18th century engineering.
