Swindon Steam MuseumIn its heyday the GWR works in Swindon covered 323 acres. The site now houses a factory outlet retail park
and the Railway Museum which tells the story of locomotive manufacturing.
The museum isn't on the scale of York or Didcot but it is well worth a visit.

Here's a good pub quiz question: when was the last steam loco built for British Railways and what was its name?
It was built here at the Swindon works in 1960 and named Evening Star - number 92220 for the anoraks.
The train driving simulator is quite fun.
